Why do we still use resumes as the main way to judge a candidate's qualifications?  On my podcast I interviewed long time carer coach Don Orlando.  Don likened the standard resume to an obituary.

The resume only tells what you did. It's not a good predictor of potential.

Does having my own website help you understand my potential? Maybe.  How many other other candidates have you looked at went the extra mile and created a website?

So if the standard resume is more like an obituary and a terrible predictor of potential, I have to ask again.  Why do we still use the resume?  The answer is simple and it's one that drives me crazy.

It's the status quo and I don't like the status quo.  Never have.

It is true you'll find some of the standard "resume" stuff here but I also tried to give you a view into my mindset, how I make decisions and how I solve problems.

After all that's what you really want with every hire.  Someone who can help you solve a problem.  Which means you're ready to challenge the status quo and that's where I come in.

I AM A GOAL-ORIENTED HACKER

No, not that kind of hacker.  Although, I am learning how to code in my spare time.  This is my definition of a Hacker:

"People who challenge and change the status quo, to make it work differently, to make it work better."

If you're looking for someone to help you maintain the status quo because that's the way you've always done it.

Then I'm not the right person for your organization.

METHODOLOGY

While I hold a number of certifications included Lean Enterprise Design and a Six Sigma Black Belt, I have found more often than not the simplest tools yield the best results.

During my career, I have had the opportunity to visit numerous suppliers and internal facilities to help resolve issues or challenges.

Too often companies I visit, believe the complex tools of six sigma will save them.  While it's true they can make a difference if applied properly, unfortunately in my experience most companies apply them incorrectly.

The tools are challenging to learn and even more difficult to apply.

This is why I start every engagement in front of a whiteboard.  Not only does this play to my strengths but it helps the organization "see" the problem in front of them.  Once you can visualize the problem fixing it becomes much easier.

I'm at home in front a whiteboard.  If want to get the best out of me and your organization give me a whiteboard and a problem to solve.  We'll both be better off because of it.
